Dia de los Muertos – October 25, 2025

La Catrina, sugar skulls and brightly colored banners and costumes fill downtown Emporia during this annual Dia de los Muertos celebration of the lives of those who have passed. In Emporia, this day-long festival features Latino artists, games, prizes and a downtown parade. As many as 3,000 people attend this event.

This festival honors the “Day of the Dead,” which occurs in October but is not a Halloween event. It is more of a spiritual day to celebrate those who have passed, with shrines, lighting of candles and preparing the favorite foods of departed loved ones.
